LIVEWIRE
the artists of Firesyne shed light on their musical project

Hey, this is Nick, and here's my take on Firesyne.  When Jim presented me with the opportunity to work on this project, I couldn't pass it up.  First of all, it would give me some experience on the production side of music.  I completely enjoy the full freedom I have over making music.  Hell, I don't even have to go out of my house to do this.  The second reason why I jumped on this project is that it's unearthing old ideas of Jim and I doing a project together stemming back from high school.  So far I've had a lot of fun and by just doing one song, I've found out that I didn't make a mistake.  My biggest responsibility in the Firesyne project is on the other side of the music, namely production.  Right now we're just using very basic equipment.  I've got a Creative Labs Sound Blaster Platinum with the Live Drive interface for the sound card.  For anyone who doesn't know, this is where you plug your guitars, mics, keys, and drum machines in order to record onto the computer.  For the recording software, I'm using Cakewalk Express, which came with the sound card.  Like I said, real basic, it's not like I'm sitting behind a 56 channel mixing board (although how cool would that be!).  Putting together a song on the computer is really easy.  It's just like using a word precessor, except you're cutting, pasting, dragging, and dropping sound instead of words.  For the mixing you just noodle around until you find what sounds good, it helps to save time and getting frustrated if you know what you want to hear, but that comes with experience.  Keep checking back on the Livewire for more on the making of Firesyne.  Also, if you have any questions, I'll try and answer them, but I can make no promises.  Until then, cheers and beers.
